Suishu — the Water Hand kata — is one of the most distinctive forms of Asai-Ryu, built around flowing, wave-like movements that give the kata its name. In this recording from the Tokon dojo's grand opening, a student of the school performs the kata, and the water-like quality is what to watch for: the hands move in continuous, circular paths, and the body sways and turns with the same smooth rhythm. Notice how the techniques never stop dead — each movement flows into the next, and the power comes from the turning of the hips rather than from sharp, isolated strikes. The stances stay light and flexible, allowing quick changes of direction. Performances like this one, given at a dojo opening, show Suishu as a living part of Asai-Ryu practice, passed from teacher to student.
