This video is devoted to Kumite demonstration.
This video is part of the Asai kata collection, an archive of seminar and training footage connected with Tetsuhiko Asai's school of karate. Asai-Ryu is rooted in Shotokan and enriched with principles of Chinese White Crane kung fu, and the material collected here shows how that approach is taught and practised in the dojo. The collection is updated every week with further kata and seminar recordings.
This kumite demonstration shows partner work built on commitment and control. Watch the attacks first: they are full, honest techniques thrown from a correct distance, because a half-hearted attack teaches nothing. Notice the defence — the block arrives with the attack, the body shifts just enough to stay safe, and the counter follows without a pause. The partners keep a strong, rooted stance through every exchange, and they return to guard before the next one begins. What makes this footage instructive is the tempo: the exchanges are fast enough to be realistic, yet each movement remains clear and readable. That clarity is the point — in training, a technique that cannot be seen clearly cannot be learned.
